Jenny O'Connor was born in Foxton and raised in the predominantly Māori township of Ruatoria, 82 miles north of Gisborne on the East Coast of New Zealand. Her parents operated a family drapery and furniture store, G.G. Carlyle Ltd, until their deaths in the early 80s. Jenny attended Manutahi School in Ruatoria and Lytton High School in Gisborne. She studied extramurally while raising her children and has spent the last 25 years working in the tertiary education sector. Her working life is now spread equally between running her management consultancy and her photography business.
Jenny has always had a keen interest in visual arts and at various times has been a potter and painter before taking up photography seriously in 2002. She is a life member of the Wellington Photographic Society and has had several solo exhibitions in Wellington and Gisborne over the past 10 years. This is Jenny’s second book. Nothing More Than This, a collaboration with her son Sean, was published in 2007. Jenny has two sons and four teenage grandchildren and lives with her husband in Newtown, Wellington.
